Al Qaeda not linked to U.S. action in Iraq
I would like to know where Rick Smith ("Liberals ignore facts about terror attacks" Thurs., Nov. 18) gets his information about the war in Iraq and the reasons for our involvement. He cites terrorist attacks against our country to be the reason we are in Iraq "defending ourselves." One fact that Smith and others are ignoring is that the people of Iraq did not attack our country. They were not responsible for the terrorist attacks over the past decade. It has not been proven that there are links between Iraq and Al Qaeda, yet we are at war. Saudi Arabia and Iran have been linked to Al Qaeda, why are we not at war with them? If we have "no choice but to fight back," we would be at war with those countries harboring terrorists, right? The fact of the matter is Iraqis are dying as "unfortunate collateral damage" when they weren't the ones that attacked us. So, before you make the hypocritical assumption that liberals are ignoring the facts about terror attacks, I suggest you get your facts straight.
