PSU wrestlers prepare for largest tournament
Sports in Brief

The No. 17 Penn State wrestling team, fresh off its second place finish at the inaugural Pennsylvania State Dual Championship, will take part in one of the oldest and largest open tournaments in the nation.

The Nittany Lions will travel to East Stroudsburg for the tournament's 39th year, to be pitted against nearly 400 wrestlers. 15 schools will send full squads while individual participants will represent another dozen teams. The tournament will not keep any team scores, making this an individual event. The Lions will send 6 wrestlers to represent Penn State, with other the rest entering unattached.

Many of the upperclassmen and starters for the Lions will not be participating, allowing them to rest up, and nurse some injuries, while letting the younger members have a chance to wrestle in another collegiate match Penn State wrestling coach Troy Sunderland said.

No. 2 Lehigh University, who beat the Lions last weekend to capture the Pennsylvania state championship, will also send wrestlers to the tournament. But, just like the Lions, the Mountain Hawks may hold out much of their first team.
