The launch of Penn State's Swift Gamma Ray Burst Explorer has been delayed due to continuing concerns about some of the equipment. Members of the Swift team will meet today to discuss the earliest possible launch date.
The new space observatory, funded by NASA, was set to take off shortly after noon today from the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Fla.
After Swift detaches from its booster rocket and protective shell, a Penn State team will take over control at the Swift Mission Operations Center, located just outside the University Park campus. Swift was not launched as scheduled yesterday due to a concern with some of the equipment hours before launch time, when engineers were making final checks overnight before the launch tower roll back.
The location of the last day of the Penn State-Michigan State Blood Donor Challenge has been changed to the Intramural Building, Red Cross spokeswoman Wendi Keeler said. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and all appointments previously scheduled for HUB Alumni Hall will be honored. Walk-ins are still welcomed.
