Letter to the Editor
Liberals question U.S. but not other countries

I would like to thank Elizabeth Hunt ("Democrats need voice of dissent in U.S." Fri., Nov. 12) for so eloquently pointing out all of the hypocrisies currently present among "liberal free-thinkers."

How can one say that liberal people know what changes are best for the majority when clearly the majority of the people do not believe those changes to be the best?

How can one say "nothing great has ever been achieved by turning away from one's metaphorical enemy" and advocate that the war in Iraq against a real enemy that wants to see us dead was a mistake that we should, in fact, turn away from?

How can you extol the virtues of individuals not forgoing what they believe and exalt Plato for giving his life for his beliefs while at the same time encouraging the president, Congress and Supreme Court to abandon their personal beliefs?

It troubles me, and most of America, that so called "liberal free-thinkers" find a greater enemy in President George W. Bush than in the leaders of France, Germany or Russia that would allow themselves to be bought by money that should have been used to feed Iraqi children.
