Letter to the Editor
Democrats not treated fairly by Republicans

How do people like Jonathan Hartland ("Radical leftist ideas take over Democrats" Friday, Nov. 12) manage to breathe? Hartland says "In election after election, the American people are choosing conservative candidates." I guess if you base your facts solely on the results of this year's election and don't bother looking back at the 2000, 1996, and 1992 elections in which the Democratic candidate won the popular vote then yes, Americans always choose the Republican candidate. What really made my blood boil, however, was his ignorant statement saying that those who want a secularized nation should move to France. Apparently right-wingers such as Hartland have completely forgotten the fact that part of being a modern Western democracy is having separation between church and state. Those of you who want to live in a theocratic society in which the country is ruled upon strict religious values can pack your bags and move to Iran.
