Health Question & Answer
Answered by UHS

Question

Can Listerine and Listerine PocketPaks change or affect blood alcohol content?

Answer

Listerine contains a significant amount of alcohol, and drinking Listerine can certainly raise your blood alcohol content. One study showed that just rinsing with Listerine prior to a breath test can significantly increase the results, although this effect does not last very long. Most dentists and oral surgeons recommend against the use of mouthwashes like Listerine, as their caustic properties can be very damaging to sensitive oral tissues. Listerine PocketPaks do not contain alcohol.
