Letter to the Editor
Science predictions not always perfect

I would like to propose a factual situation to Gina Thompson ("Abortions can occur for viable reasons" Mon., Nov. 15) and all those who subscribe to her reasoning. A woman has tuberculosis and a father has syphilis. They have four children already -- the first born blind, the second stillborn, the third was deaf and dumb and the last was born with tuberculosis. The woman is now pregnant again. Should she have an abortion? If she had, she would have killed Ludwig van Beethoven, one of the greatest composers the world has known. The point is science is not perfect because life is too unpredictable, so you never know what will happen. Life is a gift, not a choice.
