Texas shot 63 percent for the game and had five players score more than 10 points.
Forward Tiffany Jackson and senior Mercedes Williams led the Longhorns with 15 points in 23 and 22 minutes, respectively.
Penn State, meanwhile, had only two over 10 points and the post players were virtually non-existent.
Forwards Ashli Schwab, Amanda Brown and Hazel Joseph contributed just seven points and 11 rebounds, combined.
Wright scored a career-high 30 points, and Strom had 18 and five assists, while both played all 40 minutes.
Jen Harris added nine points, but without any inside presence, the more balanced Texas team controlled the game.
"Tanisha is a pretty special player, we've already known that, but we need other people," Portland said. "We need Jen Harris to get things going for us. We didn't get much from our post play. I'm not sure we called a whole lot for them right now."
Starting off the game, the Lady Lions were running stride for stride with the Longhorns. The score was 19-18 in favor of Texas with 11:52 remaining when the Longhorns went on a run to finish the half. From there, the Longhorns outscored the Lady Lions 31-17 to head into halftime leading 50-35.
Texas was only behind in the game for a total of 27 seconds.
Brown, who played just 17 minutes, found herself in foul trouble for much of the first half. With her on the bench, Texas had its way in the paint, leading to the high field goal percentage.
With the inside open, Texas was also able to penetrate and kick the ball out to the open guards. Penn State had a tough time defending the outside shot in the first half. Jamie Carey made all three of her 3-pointers in the first half, helping Texas shoot 5-of-8 from behind the arc in the first 20 minutes.
In the second half Carey was shutout by Wright's defense, but it was the rest of the Penn State defense that couldn't get a stop when it needed it. The second half lead stretched to 20 early, but was cut to within 11 twice.
Late in the game, Brown's put-back lay-up made it 70-59, but the Longhorns always had an answer.
With less than five minutes left in the game, Wright hit a shot to make it 78-68, however, that would be the last field goal for the Lady Lions in the game.
Penn State now has a week to try and fix some of the problems that were exposed against a superior team. Things won't really be easier, as No. 9 Duke (Nov. 19) and Villanova (Nov. 21) are the next stops on Penn State's brutal early season road schedule.
