Republican gloating doesn't help country
I am writing in response to Matt Valkovic's column ("Negativity will not help the Democratic Party or U.S." Thurs., Nov. 11). When Matt spoke about political unity in the U.S., he meant that he expects Democrats to sell out their values, and join the Republicans, and do this with a happy grin. After four years of divisive politics, it would be a surprise to see President George W. Bush compromise with anyone besides Karl Rove. Valkovic's advice to Democrats was insulting and condescending, he suggests that Democrats should "educate themselves to understand the nature of the Red State voter." In a time of political polarization, such obnoxious comments only widen the divide. While Valkovic calls for unity and understanding, he implies that Democrats are "elitist." I am truly offended. Both parties are guilty of unfair stereotypes, but I never expected to see such hate printed in The Daily Collegian. There is a difference between expressing your hate in an away message, and putting your hate in print for everyone to see. I expect a printed apology from the editor for that offensive remark.
