First, there was The Simpsons.
Then followed South Park.
The latest attempt to test the boundaries of decency is Comedy Central's Drawn Together.
And it tests well on all accounts.
Mocking the current mega-popular trend in reality television, Drawn Together is essentially an animated version of The Real World.
Eight animated characters, spoofing classic cartoon characters or archetypes from cartoon history, live together in a house.
They do -- well, they don't really do anything, just like The Real World.
The premise is timely, which certainly gives the show a boost in audience-drawing power, but this same bonus may also hurt its potential longevity.
To give you an example of the show's "boundary-pushing" material, last week's premise revolved around a curse put upon Clara, a naïve princess in the Disney mold.
But this was no ordinary curse, oh no.
Clara's evil stepmother put a curse upon her vagina, essentially installing an angry, tentacled creature inside to prevent any entry.
Despite the potential lack of taste, the show manages to retain a slim grip on highbrow humor.
Drawn Together does this by lampooning elements of reality television, such as the confessional-style interviews and petty squabbling among its cast.
Other characters satirize everyone from SpongeBob Squarepants to Pikachu from Pokémon to Betty Boop.
You probably won't like every element Drawn Together has to offer.
However, it does have a little something for everyone, whether it's animated lesbian action or farcical social commentary.
