In response to Albert L. de Richemond's letter ("Punch card system inadequate for voting" Wed., Nov. 10), I want to inform the writer that Nov. 2 should be the last election any county in Pennsylvania will use punch card voting because of the Help America Vote Act of 2002. For the primaries in 2005 there will be a new system in place, so you can put your fears to rest. Why did the writer not address the problems that have been documented with electronic voting machines, especially those in key states such as Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania? We should not use electronic voting machines that can malfunction, losing votes or reporting phantom votes. Electronic voting machines can produce bad results due to malfunctions. Our government should evaluate electronic voting systems.
