Letter to the Editor
Imposing values not same as free speech

I'd like to respond to Jesse Dominick's letter ("U.S. leaders can use Christian teachings" Wed., Nov. 10) claiming the right of our nation's leaders to use Christian beliefs as support for legislation. I wasn't aware that by imposing his moral values, which are based on his faith, President George W. Bush was merely exercising the First Amendment. Lucky him, that through freedom of religion the president can pass legislation to overrule the beliefs of his citizens. The quotations Dominick provided to illuminate the values of our founding fathers were effective in informing me of which "Creator" I should turn to for guidance. I now know that it is He who granted us "certain unalienable rights," and yet condoned the use of slavery for over 200 years.
