From the start, the Ruggers set the tone as they rushed to a 70-0 halftime lead with aggressive tackling in the defense and out hustling Loyola. It was the fourth time this season that the Ruggers have scored more than 50 points in a game.
"This year we have emphasized our defense and our need to keep the ball," Ruggers captain Tim Ryland said.
They then rammed in 61 points after the break.
"We knew from the start that we were the better team," Terry Ryland said.
They had a total of 21 tries with the backs scoring 13 and the forwards adding eight in a dominating performance.
Top try scorers for the Ruggers were backs Ryland, Mike Petri and Michael Finnerty who each had a hat trick. Adding two tries each were back Dominic Mara and forward Chris Wolff.
Loyola tried to take the backline, which is the Ruggers strength, out of the game but the Ruggers showed that their forwards are developing into a threat.
"We have been working on our forwards ball handling and keeping the ball alive," Terry Ryland said.
After the first 29 minutes, the Ruggers substituted Ryland, Mara and Finnerty, who during that time period scored a total of eight tries. They also removed many of their first team by halftime, as they wanted to work on their depth.
With a young team that has matured throughout the season, and an explosive offense, the Ruggers have a solid foundation for the spring season.
They are also happy that they ended the fall season with a convincing win that bodes well for their National Championship aspirations.
