Yogurt Express has guilt-free treats with all the flavor, less fat

Collegian Staff Writer

My mentality is that everyone needs to indulge every once in a while.

Ninety-five percent of the time I try to be good. I pass on the burgers and fries and opt for salad. I flock to low-fat and low-calorie meal options.

There are times that I let myself forget about all the Atkins and calorie-counting business, but when I relax and find myself eating a greasy slice of pizza, the inevitable guilt usually follows the next day.

An extra half-hour at the gym or walking home from class instead of taking the bus is usually my way to compensate for a pig-out session.

I know many people at Penn State must feel my pain. The commons offer an all-you-can-eat buffet, and it seems crazy to waste all those meal points. It is easy to take the less healthy food route, but by observing the lines at the White Building, most people probably suffer from post-binge guilt like me.

After growing tired of this routine, I decided to find a place that serves delicious consequence-free treats to put my mouth and mind at ease. I found that Yogurt Express, 426 E. College Ave., is a haven for those seeking good food and guilt-free goodies.

When I walked through the doors of Yogurt Express, I was shocked at all the options with which I was faced. Of course, I immediately went for the low-fat frozen yogurt, which comes in a variety of flavors.

Yogurt Express, 426 E. College Ave., serves low-fat yogurt as well as wraps and other sandwiches.

I am a plain Jane and went with vanilla.

When it comes to toppings, this place has about anything you can imagine, from candy pieces and sauces to cereal and fruit. I splurged and went with the classic Reese's peanut butter cups to top off my treat.

The thing about Yogurt Express is that you can't go wrong. The yogurt was creamy and sweet, and the toppings gave it the perfect accent and texture. I am obviously pretty picky and weird about food, but Yogurt Express is always satisfying. It has endless options for yogurt and topping combos, so your taste buds will never get bored.

Another plus for this eatery is that the prices are reasonable. I got a medium more-than-I-could-eat portion of yogurt for a little more than $3.

For those who could care less about calories (more power to you) Yogurt Express is not only about the yogurt. The menu has a variety of sandwiches, wraps, burgers and other grilled items.

Another feature of Yogurt Express is that it bakes specialty cookie cakes for special occasions. They are a great alternative to the all-too-common birthday cake and ice cream.

The atmosphere inside Yogurt Express is also something that will keep you coming back. It has plenty of comfortable seating to accommodate your whole crew. It also features a big-screen TV that can be seen from anywhere in the store and computers that can be used for a small price. It is a perfect place to sit, eat and take a breather from hectic college life.
