SPORTS

It was a scene that was all too familiar for the Penn State field hockey team Saturday afternoon.

The No. 6 Penn State women's volleyball team (19-2, 10-2 Big Ten) continued to roll over Big Ten opponents not named Minnesota and Ohio State, with two more victories this weekend against lowly Indiana (8-15, 2-10) and inconsistent Purdue (11-11, 4-8).

For the second week in a row, the Penn State men's rugby team left its opponents in the dust. Two weeks ago, the team beat Towson University on the road 78-9.

There were lots of parties this weekend in honor of Halloween, but the grandest of them all might have been the block party that took place at Rec Hall on Friday and Saturday night.

Every so often an anomaly occurs before a group of people in the sports world to remind them just how special these games really are. This was one of those weekends.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Nittany Lions roll into town and the truck isn't too far behind. The equipment truck with the mural of the players and "One Hungry Pride" emblazoned across the side.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- It's an all too familiar scene for Penn State in recent years. Joe Paterno sits down after a game, runs his hand through his hair and gives a tired-sounding chuckle when asked to pinpoint the latest problems of his football team.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- He'd never admit it, but Ohio State coach Jim Tressel had to have had an interesting thought pop into his head before Saturday's game.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Reality hit first. Then, perhaps, pessimism.
