While local police continue to take phone calls about stolen political signs, many showed up on the field of Beaver Stadium Friday morning.
Penn State University Police Supervisor Tyrone Parham said stadium staff arriving for work at about 7:45 a.m. Friday found Kerry-Edwards signs arranged so they spelled out "Vote Bush." Parham said whoever broke into the stadium to place the signs on the field did so between 4 p.m. Thursday and 7:45 a.m. Friday.
He added that Penn State police suspect the signs were stolen because of the large number of them used.
Parham said it is difficult to enter the stadium, but it is likely that the person or people trespassing climbed over a wall or fence with a ladder.
He added that there have been times in the past where pranksters have entered the stadium and vandalized the field, but he did not remember anyone ever arranging political signs on the field.
Police have no suspects at this time but are requesting that anyone with information call 863-1111 or go to the police Web site at www.psu.edu/dept/police. Those involved in the vandalism will likely face charges of criminal trespass, criminal mischief and, if the signs were stolen, receiving stolen property, police said.
