Republicans to hold banquet
The College Republicans will hold an event tomorrow night at the Nittany Lion Inn to celebrate Republican

Some student groups are anticipating the results of the presidential election and have already planned celebratory events for tomorrow night.

The College Republicans, in coordination with the Centre County GOP, will be hosting an "Election Night Extravaganza" from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. tomorrow at the Nittany Lion Inn.

Tickets for the event have been available since last week and are $20 for community members and $17.50 for students. They can be picked up at the College Republicans table in the HUB-Robeson Center or the Centre County Republican election office, 232 S. Allen St.

"We wanted a fun place for students and community members to get together and watch the election results," Andy Banducci, chairman of the College Republicans, said.

Glenn Thompson, Centre County Republican Party chairman, said the event's announcement was well received in the community.

"This is the first time we have done a joint project like this with the College Republicans, and everyone is asking, 'Why didn't you do this before?' " he said. "It'll be great."

The event is being held to celebrate the end of the elections, said Charles Gable, College Republicans faculty adviser.

"We wanted to be able to celebrate important Republican victories on election night -- there are several local and state representatives up for election and re-election," he said.

The event follows the tradition of election night events held by campaign groups across the country.

"At the end of a good, hard-fought election, all of the individuals involved usually get together and watch the election results," he said.

Gable said that in addition to food and beverages, the event will feature prominent Republican guests, such as state Reps. Lynn Herman, R-Centre, and Kerry Benninghoff, R-Centre and Mifflin, and state Sen. Jake Corman, R-Centre.

"Other VIPs may be present, but their names will not be released until their appearances are definite," he said.

Though the event's turnout is indefinite, a "blanket" invitation was given to every club on campus, Gable said.

"Everyone is welcome to come and celebrate our victories with us," he said.

The campus's other political groups have mixed reactions to the invitation to the event.

Nomi Deutch, PSU Republicans chairwoman, said her members would most likely attend the celebration.

"We weren't involved in the planning, but we will be attending and hopefully be celebrating all together until late [tomorrow] night," she said.

College Democrats President Megan Green said her organization would not be attending the event.

"We definitely won't be going. ... We're having our own celebration just for members of the College Democrats to thank everyone for all their hard work," she said.
