Every team wants to be the best in its conference by the end of the season, and the Penn State women's cross-country team will get its chance this weekend. In most other sports, by the time the conference championships are decided most of the teams have already faced off, sometimes on multiple occasions. When a team has some time off, it can be an opportunity to rest and build anticipation for the next tournament. It's been three weeks since the Penn State Women's Golf team competed and it's done resting and past anticipation - the team is ready to play. Littered amongst the No. 2 Penn State Div. I ACHA Icers' locker room are various inspirational sayings and newspaper clippings -- but there's one article in particular that stands out. After crushing the Towson University Tigers last weekend, the Penn State men's rugby team will be facing off against the intrastate rival the Indiana University of Pennsylvania at 6 p.m. today at east campus fields and it's hoping for a repeat performance. Sports in brief Talk about an appropriate ending. We'll do better the second time around. Forget about the 7-0 start and the familiar quotes like "we don't overlook anyone on the schedule." Sure, the attitude and performance of the No.2 Penn State ACHA Div I. Icers doesn't indicate that they've looked past any teams in this young season. After three straight shutout victories, the Penn State men's soccer team finally appears to be back on track. For the six seniors on the Penn State women's soccer team tonight will serve as the last regular season opportunity to feel the agony of defeat on their home turf. If, in fact, a weirder score than six points to four exists, well, we might all find that out this weekend. Considering the strength of the defense, Penn State could have won the ugly way for most of this year. It was just three years ago, but it has to seem longer ago to him. A struggling offense. An impressive defense that isn't able to completely compensate for it. A team forced to utilize its more mobile backup at quarterback because of an injury to its starter. Roustabout! isn't won over easily. You've got to woo her, treat her right. Take her out dancing, maybe even get a little dressed up. What do we want out of a Halloween movie? What is Hollywood going to do with David O. Russell? If there were justice in this country, Ted Leo would be the biggest rock musician in the world.
