NEWS

In an effort to warn college students about the possibility of a military draft, the non-profit organization MoveOn Student Action is printing advertisements concerning the issue in 150 campus papers.

Tomorrow has been declared "Penn State Day" by Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell.

Imagine President George W. Bush and Sen. John Kerry having a jousting contest on the White House lawn.

The words Hogwarts, Muggles and Quidditch might not mean a lot to some Penn State students.

This weekend may be Halloween, but members of organizations involved with the Interfraternity/Panhellenic Dance Marathon are not asking for candy.

The University Faculty Senate approved changes to the bachelor of arts (B.A.) degree requirements that will give students greater flexibility in choosing general education courses.

Amid a sea of pink "vote as if your life depended on it" stickers, Ms. Magazine co-founder Gloria Steinem spoke to an audience of about 300 yesterday in the HUB Auditorium.

Former President George H.W. Bush will visit Penn State today as part of a campaign rally scheduled for 11 a.m. in HUB Alumni Hall.

Today is the last day for the Centre County Board of Elections to receive completed absentee ballots.

Platforms and promises 2004

Though foreign policy is one of the biggest campaign issues in this year's presidential election, immigration seems to be one aspect that could sway one large block of voters.

Though admittedly partisan, Howard Dean spoke mostly about the politics and problems of America last night.

SPORTS

Every team wants to be the best in its conference by the end of the season, and the Penn State women's cross-country team will get its chance this weekend.

In most other sports, by the time the conference championships are decided most of the teams have already faced off, sometimes on multiple occasions.

When a team has some time off, it can be an opportunity to rest and build anticipation for the next tournament. It's been three weeks since the Penn State Women's Golf team competed and it's done resting and past anticipation - the team is ready to play.

Littered amongst the No. 2 Penn State Div. I ACHA Icers' locker room are various inspirational sayings and newspaper clippings -- but there's one article in particular that stands out.

After crushing the Towson University Tigers last weekend, the Penn State men's rugby team will be facing off against the intrastate rival the Indiana University of Pennsylvania at 6 p.m. today at east campus fields and it's hoping for a repeat performance.

Sports in brief

Talk about an appropriate ending.

We'll do better the second time around.

Forget about the 7-0 start and the familiar quotes like "we don't overlook anyone on the schedule." Sure, the attitude and performance of the No.2 Penn State ACHA Div I. Icers doesn't indicate that they've looked past any teams in this young season.

After three straight shutout victories, the Penn State men's soccer team finally appears to be back on track.

For the six seniors on the Penn State women's soccer team tonight will serve as the last regular season opportunity to feel the agony of defeat on their home turf.

If, in fact, a weirder score than six points to four exists, well, we might all find that out this weekend.

Considering the strength of the defense, Penn State could have won the ugly way for most of this year.

It was just three years ago, but it has to seem longer ago to him.

A struggling offense. An impressive defense that isn't able to completely compensate for it. A team forced to utilize its more mobile backup at quarterback because of an injury to its starter.
