Former Lady Lion gives money for scholarships

Eight Penn State students were awarded between $1,000 and $2,400 on behalf of former Penn State women's basketball standout Kelly Mazzante and the John R. Wooden Award Scholarship Fund Committee.

Mazzante received a $15,000 scholarship in her name after being named to the inaugural Women's John R. Wooden All-America Team in April, 2004. She donated the money to the Penn State general scholarship fund.

"I am grateful for everything Penn State gave me during my career here, and I am happy that I can give back to the University in this way," said Mazzante. "I would like to thank the John R. Wooden Award Scholarship Fund Committee, and I wish all the recipients the best of luck in their studies here at Penn State."

To be eligible, students must be enrolled full-time, predicted of achieving a 3.0 g.p.a. or higher, and enrolled in a major focused on science, technology or finance. In addition, applicants must demonstrate strength of character, leadership and community involvement.

The students who received the award are: Nicholas Bunce (Northampton, Pa.), Brian Brittingham (Drexel Hill, Pa.), Brent Kirwan (Lemont, Pa.), Julie Kosin (Erie, Pa.), Nathaniel Leviere (Elwood City, Pa.), Adam Mong (Hershey, Pa.), Matthew Mudd (Glen Rock, Pa.) and Raymond Toper (Corapolis, Pa.).
