'Donkey Konga'
Video Game Review

So you really like that rhythm game Dance Dance Revolution, but you're too afraid to break out the dance moves anywhere except behind lock and key.

Wannabe dancers, your prayers have been answered. Enter: Donkey Konga for the GameCube.

It's DDR for drummers, as players pound their way through a variety of tunes to improve their percussionist skills.

Included with the game is your very own plastic bongo drum that acts as the game's controller. Bongo your way through a couple menu screens, and you'll be drumming along to the tune of "Whip It" before you know it. Symbols fly across the screen, giving you your drumming commands which are, very simply: hit the right drum, hit the left drum, hit both drums or clap. My arthritic grandmother could learn this game in about five minutes.

High scores will earn you coins, which allow you to purchase different (i.e. obnoxious) drumming sound effects, new levels of difficulty and a few mediocre mini-games. Sure, the game includes a hefty 30 songs to play to, but after you've gone through them once, there isn't a whole lot of replay value.

As for the music itself, there's a little something for everyone. "The Impression That I Get," "Louie Louie," "Locomotion" and the Pokémon theme song are just a few of the very random tunes you'll encounter.

The gameplay of Donkey Konga is no doubt a little on the kiddie side at times, but with a little immaturity and maybe some alcohol, this one can appease the musically deficient for hours.

But just because it's easy to learn doesn't mean it's easy to play. If you suck at patting your head while rubbing your belly, leave this one to the pros.
