Ad endorsing Kerry has faulty reasoning

In Tuesday's edition of The Daily Collegian there was a half page advertisement from the Mothers Opposing Bush. This ad was completely offensive and false. It implies that Bush will reinstate a draft if he is re-elected. This is a scare tactic used to frighten college students into voting for Sen. John Kerry. Ironically, these are the same sort of tactics Democrats claim we Republicans use. In fact President George W. Bush has come out and said he will not have a draft. Kerry danced around the topic in the debate. It doesn't make sense to have a draft anyway. It costs thousands of dollars and a great deal of time to train each soldier for the type of combat they face today. The technology is very advanced and hard to learn. Thus, it's not practical to draft troops for 2 years and spend a year and a half and millions of dollars training them. The all-volunteer army we have in place today makes more sense because these soldiers have chosen careers of military service. They will do their duties better and more efficiently than those who are drafted. These are the soldiers the president wants in the military. I have no problem with the Mothers Opposing Bush wanting to print an ad in the Collegian, I wish they would check facts before printing and stop scaring students to vote for Kerry and Sen. John Edwards.
