NEWS

Flatbeds, wood, chicken wire, glue, little squares of colored tissue paper called "pomps" and a week of dedication.

The lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and its allies (LGBTA) will come out to march and dress to impress this Homecoming weekend to spread awareness about National Coming Out Day (NCOD).

While students are busy studying for midterm examinations, they have been creeping closer.

Whether it is a snow day, a sick day, or your birthday, most students jump at the chance to take a break from cramming for tests, taking notes in lecture halls and clicking deep into the night to finish papers.

With Homecoming 2004 events in high gear, there are two words on participants' minds: spirit points.

Typically when the Homecoming parade winds its way through campus, all eyes are on the floats.

Homecoming weekend kicks off tonight with an event big enough to stop traffic on College Avenue -- literally.

Two opposing political ideologies will square off tonight when Michael Moore and Michael Gallagher visit Penn State to campaign to potential voters with 11 days left until the presidential election.

'Mockumentary' movie hits the stage
University police have suspect in rape

Because of Homecoming festivities and visits by Michael Moore and Michael Gallagher this weekend, State College Police and Penn State University Police will be relying on maximum staff to ensure that everything will run smoothly, officials said yesterday.

Believers for Bush, the Christian group that rallied last night at Mount Nittany Middle School, said they believed that if he could, the Lord himself would vote GOP.

Freshmen.

You'd think they'd be sick of each other.

The game plan may be a bit different for the No. 2 Penn State ACHA Div. I Icers -- but the outcome remains all the same.

Four years ago Joe Battista tried to get Paul Mammola to be the feature goaltender for the Penn State ACHA Div. I Icers. "Coach I appreciate it, but I want to play Division I hockey," Mammola said at the time.

With two big rematches against last year's Final Four teams looming this weekend, the defending national champion Penn State women's rugby team welcomes the challenge.

There will be no such thing as dipping those Lady Lion toes in the proverbial water this season.

The No. 5 Penn State women's volleyball team (16-2, 7-2 Big Ten) will have to develop short-term memory loss as it travels to Illinois for a match with the No. 24 Illini (13-4, 5-3), the team right behind the Lions in the Big Ten standings.

Like the Energizer bunny, the Penn State field hockey team just keeps going, and going, and going.

With a seventh straight regular season Big Ten title already in the bag, the No. 3 Penn State women's soccer team is aiming to do something that has not been done since the 2000 season: finish a regular season undefeated in the Big Ten.

After losing three of its last six games, it finally looks like the Penn State men's soccer team is turning things around.

Organizers have declared a "White Out" for Saturday's Big Ten clash with No. 25 Iowa. Kickoff is at 12 p.m. in Beaver Stadium for Penn State's 85th Homecoming contest.

Some cried that night. A few yelled out in frustration. Others simply kept quiet, unwilling to expend the energy to express their emotion.

Such a clever disguise, those thick glasses and plain dress shirts are.

Levi Brown was lying on the Metrodome turf and Joe Paterno began his pacing. Though this wasn't the first member of his team who Penn State's coach had seen injured in the game, this was the one he called the biggest loss.

If you think high school football is just a game, be sure not to share your sentiments with the people of Odessa, Texas.

Before reviewing Team America: World Police, let me state my bias: I think South Park is great.

It's been a year since he died, but it's still hard to talk about Elliott.

A few weeks ago the letters M and J held no special meaning. Now, however, these letters bring to mind the athletic, blond, easy-going guy from Real World: Philadelphia. Yesterday M.J. Garrett visited Penn State. His broad smile was infectious, as was his Southern accent, while he took time out of his busy schedule to answer questions.
