Bush's policies hurt Pennsylvania wildlife
As a long-time hunter and outdoorsman, and a graduate of Penn State, I am sad about President Bush's disregard for our forests and waterways here in Pennsylvania. If you've ever had your hunting and fishing grounds ruined by clear-cut foresting and strip mining -- as I did a number of years ago over in Clinton County -- you know that the president's policies on land and water are wrong. Pennsylvanians can be proud of some of the finest hunting, fishing and natural beauty in the entire world. But the president has already harmed a great deal of it, and wants to do worse. He encourages timbering on state game lands. Bush allows power plants and other factories to give off more harmful gases into our air and more chemical waste into our streams than at any time in the last 40 years. Bush also refuses to help the EPA find the money it needs to clean up contaminated sites. Pennsylvania sportsmen deserve to have our state's outdoor recreation areas preserved, for our lifetime and for our kids to enjoy and appreciate. And, by the way, no matter which side you're on, you have to know that Sen. John Kerry is not going to take away our hunting rifles. Kerry is a hunter and outdoorsman too, and he understands the issues important to us. Plus, if the current president keeps stirring up terrorists the way he is lately, we might soon need to use those rifles to defend ourselves in our own backyards. Scott Smith
