Suspects charged in two robberies

Collegian Staff Writer

Two individuals have been arrested and arraigned in connection to two robberies of State College businesses last month, officials said.

Jerome Slacum, 57, and Stacey Ann Miller, 35, were arraigned yesterday before District Justice Allen Sinclair. Bail has been set at $20,000 each.

Slacum and Miller are accused of a pair of Sept. 23 robberies that targeted a Uni-Mart, 300 S. Allen St., and the Quinn-Tessential Scrapbook Store, 2141 S. Atherton St.

Slacum and Miller are charged with robbery, criminal conspiracy, theft by unlawful taking or disposition, receiving stolen property and terroristic threats, according to court documents.

According to police reports, the suspects walked into the Uni-Mart at about 8 p.m. and Slacum claimed to have a gun and demanded money.

Police said that after the suspects took the money, the store manager chased the woman down and recovered all the money they had taken.

According to court documents, the suspects stole about $92 from the cash register before Miller was forced to give the money back.

About an hour later, police received a phone call from Quinn-Tessential Scrapbook Store reporting that a man and woman had stolen money from the cash register and fled the scene. Store officials reported that Slacum had also claimed to have a gun in that incident, police said.

Court documents stated that when police interviewed Slacum, he said he had his hands in his pocket and did not actually have a weapon in either robbery.

Slacum and Miller stole $347 from Quinn-Tessential, court documents said. Police said there were no injuries in either incident.

Slacum is currently being held at Centre County Prison, and Miller is in Clinton County Prison. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte.
