Five polling places changing locations

Centre County election officials have changed the polling locations for five of the county's 85 precincts for the Nov. 2 general election.

Of the five changes, one falls in the State College Borough. The East Central 1 (precinct 28) has been changed to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 109 McAllister St. Wanda Hockenberry, Centre County Office Elections and Voter Registration assistant director, said the office mailed new ID cards to all the residents in the precincts that were changed. The changes for the State College Borough, Bellefonte Borough West, Burnside Township and Penn Township were made to ensure polling places are accessible to voters with disabilities. The Patton Township move was made because property ownership changed hands.

A complete list of the polling places in Centre County can be found at www.co.centre.pa.us. The Web site also allows registered voters to find out where their polling place is located.

Man arraigned for September assault

Daniel P. Newby of the 100 block of North Sparks Street was arraigned yesterday on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment in connection with a Sept. 12 altercation in which, according to police reports, Newby allegedly assaulted his roommate.

According to police records, Newby and his roommate, Robert Strothers, got into an argument about Newby's ex-girlfriend. Police said Newby then began hitting Strothers "more than 10 times" on the right side of his jaw. Strothers was treated at Mount Nittany Medical Center for a broken jaw and "excessive" swelling to the right side of his face, police said.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 27.
