As a Penn State alumna, I am proud to have attended a university as diverse and as accepting as the university. But I was appalled to learn that Penn State was being sued by a group known as the DiscipleMakers because it doesn't agree with university policy, which requires that all student groups agree to abide by the school's nondiscrimination policy, including religion and sexual orientation. In a country of equality and freedom, I can't even comprehend how one group can think they can force their beliefs on an entire student body, let alone attend a school known for its mass diversity and acceptance. What makes the DiscipleMakers so special that what its beliefs are better than others' beliefs? I may not agree with some people's beliefs or choices, but that does not classify them as unqualified to head an organization or become president of this country. As religious as you say you are, you preach acceptance, but what you really mean is you only accept those who believe what you believe. Do you see other student groups using the legal system to force their thoughts and beliefs on others? Open your mind and see that your views and beliefs aren't always the same as everyone else's. I am of the Christian faith, but in the 21st century, I'm not about to live by the Bible word for word. I live by the belief in God and learning from others who don't think and act like me. It's a shame that you spend so much time trying to change everyone.
