Two presidential debates are finished, and what have people learned? The candidates have reiterated the same issues -- war and tax cuts. Where are the other issues? What happened to the fight against global HIV/AIDS? HIV/AIDS is a humanitarian issue that needs to be addressed in this election and each candidate has a starkly different platform on it. More than 40 million people throughout the world are currently infected with HIV/AIDS and the disease is continuing to spread at unprecedented rates. A population about three times the size of Philadelphia is newly infected every year, however only 7 percent receive adequate treatment. And adults aren't the only victims. There are currently over 12 million HIV/AIDS orphans. So what do these numbers mean to American voters? The numbers represent the immense human suffering caused by the epidemic and the danger of a spreading disease. So as the election approaches let's be aware that Iraq is not the only life and death decision in the next four years.
