Letter to the Editor
Many citizens don't support gay marriage

Yesterday's Collegian editorial ("Current issues show need for speaking out on Coming Out Day" Mon. Oct, 11) contained an apparent Freudian slip in the second paragraph. By stating "Sexuality is a personal issue about a choice somebody makes for the happiness in his or her life," it seems as though homosexuality is a lifestyle choice as opposed to a physiological condition predetermined at birth, as many contend.

Now, we as a society have decided that certain "choices" are not acceptable, such as choosing to abuse children or murder someone. As is being shown in states all around the country by way of the popular vote, citizens are overwhelmingly choosing to ban gay "marriage." While I am firmly in support of equal legal rights for all people when it comes to issues of hospital visitation, death benefits and the like, it is increasingly clear that most Americans do not support the notion of equating heterosexual marriage with gay "marriage."
