While I think it is great that so many students are interested in politics during what is a very important election year, I am discouraged by the negativity being placed toward the University Park Allocation Committee for choosing to fund Michael Moore. As a former UPAC member, I understand that UPAC does not place any bias, political or otherwise, into these types of decisions.
UPAC works hard to allow student groups to bring a wide variety of programs to this campus, and I think they do a terrific job at that. For example, if you hate Moore and don't want to see him speak that night, why not watch the Homecoming Parade and then go to Old Main to see the Pep Rally and King and Queen Coronation? These events are also funded by UPAC, as are many of the other Homecoming festivities students will enjoy in the upcoming weeks. If you don't agree with an allocation decision made by the committee or don't care to take advantage of one particular thing that UPAC funds, just wait another day, and I can almost guarantee that another event or activity will come along that you will want to participate in that was funded by UPAC. The members of UPAC work extremely hard for their fellow students in what I consider to be one of the most thankless jobs at this university.
