Women's basketball TV schedule announced

WPSX-TV (Adelphia Channel 3) has announced its television lineup for the 2004-05 Penn State women's basketball season. Included in that schedule will be six games: at Duke, Nov. 19; North Carolina, Dec. 5; Old Dominion, Dec. 19; Illinois, Jan. 13; Wisconsin, Feb. 17; and Northwestern, Feb. 20. CSTV will air those WPSX-produced games.

In addition, CSTV will broadcast the Lady Lions' Dec. 9 game at Pitt. Seven other Lady Lion contests will air on television, beginning with Penn State's season-opening game at Texas in the prestigious State Farm Tip-Off Classic, which ESPN2 (Adelphia Channel 18) will air.

CBS-TV (Adelphia Channel 10) will broadcast the team's Jan. 8 contest at Wisconsin, and FSN-Chicago will air five other games, including Ohio State, Dec. 30; Purdue, Jan. 20; Michigan State, Jan. 23; Minnesota, Jan. 30; and Purdue, Feb. 6.

The back-to-back defending Big Ten Champion Lady Lions are led this year by All-American candidate Tanisha Wright. Wright, who is the only returning first-team All-Big Ten player (coaches and media) in the conference, is on the watch list for several national player of the year honors, including the Wade Trophy and Women's Wooden Player of the Year Award. At the helm is head coach Rene Portland, who begins her 25th year leading the program.

Penn State field hockey changes starting time

The start of the Penn State field hockey game at Michigan State on Saturday, Oct. 9 has been changed to 4 p.m. ET. The game was originally slated to begin at 6 p.m.

The No. 19 Nittany Lions (8-5, 2-0) put their perfect Big Ten record on the line when they visit the Spartans this weekend. Riding a four-game winning streak including three straight shutouts, Penn State is led by senior Karin Grap, who has seven goals on the season, and redshirt freshman Shaun Banta, who ranks second on the team with six.

Defensively, Penn State has been especially strong. Junior goalkeeper Megan Akstin has tallied six full shutouts this year, and the defense has shut out seven opponents on the season. In addition, three players have been recognized by the Big Ten as players of the week, including junior Molly Schriver who won the award on Monday after Penn State shut out its third straight opponent for the second time this season.

World University Games' roster includes 3 Icers

The 2005 World University Games hockey roster has been announced, and it includes three current Penn State Icers. Senior Defensemen Eric Harbaugh and Joe Maglaque and Forward Kevin Jaeger will play for the United States Select Team at the 2005 Games, which will take place in Innsbruck, Austria from January 12-22.

Penn State is no stranger to the World University Games. Icers head coach Joe Battista coached the United States team at the 2003 Games in Tarvisio, Italy, and Penn State has previously sent eight other players to the World University Games in various years.

Harbaugh, Maglaque and Jaeger were selected from a pool of 71 players, all of whom participated in the 2004 Winter World University Games Summer Select Camp in August.

Harbaugh, a senior defenseman from Meadville, PA, had one goal and four assists for five points last season before red-shirting. Maglaque is a senior defenseman from South Plainfield, NJ. Last season was his first with the Icers and he tallied 14 goals and 34 assists for a total of 48 points.

Jaeger is a senior forward with career totals of 105 goals and 102 assists for 207 points. Last season, he was second in the ACHA in scoring with 85 points, and first in goals with 38.
