Moore's appearance 55 cents per student

I am sick of hearing people complain about Michael Moore's upcoming visit to Penn State on Oct. 22. I understand that some of you are upset about the fact that University Park Allocations Committee gave $23,000 to fund the appearance. There are roughly 42,000 full-time students attending University Park. That equals out to about 55 cents per student. What were you going to do with that 55 cents? Buy a can of Pepsi? (Off campus of course, because they are 75 cents in the on campus vending machines) Maybe you were going to buy a stamp so that you can write your congressman about how you are so oppressed at Penn State. You want to challenge university spending?

Then challenge the shadiness of the Penn State administration. Ask why the Information Technology Fee (three times the amount of the student activity fee) has no student representation on its decision board. Better yet, demand to know how much money Penn State spends on Board of Trustees meetings in New York! Keep in mind that UPAC must make its decision to fund on one major factor. Will this benefit the Penn State student out of class experience?

Because of this decision most people will have something to do on Oct. 22. While many people, I am sure, will make their way to the Bryce Jordan Center to listen to what Michael Moore has to say, many will stand outside and protest the event. Sounds to me like its win-win for everyone involved. Think of how insignificant politics would be without conflict.
