Christopher and Matthew Ford of Media faced preliminary hearings yesterday in front of District Justice Carmine Prestia on charges related to a Sept. 18 assault at Kappa Sigma fraternity, 255 Highland Ave.

Matthew Ford waived his right to his preliminary hearing, while Christopher Ford was bounded over for charges of criminal conspiracy, aggravated assault and simple assault.

According to court documents, Penn State student Daniel Boyle was struck early the morning of Sept. 18 while attending a party at the fraternity. The suspects, Matthew and Christopher Ford, had already been removed from the house by fraternity members after creating a disturbance at a party that evening. Court documents said they also allegedly assaulted other members of the fraternity, sending one to the hospital.

According to court documents, Boyle, who is not a member of Kappa Sigma, heard the two suspects shouting from the parking lot and began to climb a fence to reach the two men. While climbing the fence, Boyle was grabbed by one of the suspects and hit in the back of the head by what witnesses said was an empty beer bottle.

Boyle said during the preliminary hearing that he received 40 deep-tissue stitches and 16 staples to the back of his head.
