As any fan of MTV's The Real World: San Diego knows, there was quite an entertaining cast to go along with the beautiful California backdrop.
Two of the most amusing members of the cast -- Cameran Eubanks and Robin Hibbard -- will be showing up at the Crowbar, 420 E. College Ave., tonight for an evening of Mardi Gras-flavored fun.
The all-ages show -- which begins at 10:30 and also features the band Backstreet Law -- is part of an ongoing afterlife for the two former MTV starlets, who will be revisiting their old stomping grounds in this fall's Real World/Road Rules Battle of the Sexes 2.
Chris Kolaskos, Eubanks and Hibbard's consultant/agent, said that just because a cast member's time on The Real World has ended does not mean that his or her career is over.
"When the cast members are done with the show, their main business is night club appearances and speaking engagements at colleges all over the country," he said. "This is really the most popular night club tour that I've ever seen and hopefully it will work to jump start these people into other careers. But for right now, this is a full-time gig that they enjoy and make money doing."
Crowbar operations director Dave Wells said he has found success in the past with this particular type of show, specifically last year when he had former Real World: Paris cast members Ace Amerson and Mallory Snyder on hand for a similar kind of event.
"The idea will again be to have beads given out to everyone who attends the show, with the person who has the most beads at the end receiving a prize," he said. "This will really be a great opportunity for people to be up close and interact with these former cast members."
Liz Chapman (senior-integrative arts) seems to agree with Wells' proposition, saying that one of the most interesting aspects about these events is the drawing power of the former Real World-ers.
"I was excited when I saw this show advertised because it's always interesting to see celebrities who have been on TV," she said. "I remember seeing Randy Barry from the San Diego cast last semester at a bar and not wanting to approach him like all the other screaming girls there."
Another student, Jenny Franks (junior-arts and architecture and advertising), said more specifically that Eubanks and Hibbard have a appeal to kids her age.
"[Cameran and Robin] seemed on the show like they would be really cool girls to party with and I'm sure a lot of the guys on campus would like to meet Cameran," she said. "So I think the audience in attendance will be excited about them because they're college-age people and they would fit in well with the Penn State crowd."
Whatever the true appeal of The Real World may be, Kolaskos said that it is in no danger of dying out in the near future.
"[The Real World] has attained cult status and there's nothing more popular out there right now for people to really connect and identify with," he said.
