Moore appearance worth extra money

The accusation that University Park Allocation Committee (UPAC) quickly gave funding to the College Democrats for Michael Moore is an error considering that the College Democrats have appeared before UPAC four times since April. Anyone who has ever gone through the UPAC process knows that it is an intricate process involving writing detailed reports about the program. Any changes in the program must have addendums filed in order to receive additional funding or keep the funding that has already been allocated. The College Democrats prompted UPAC over the past 6 months to give $23,000 towards a program which costs $36,000. Through fundraising and community donations, the College Democrats have made up the difference. Also, any organization can request funds from UPAC. In fact, Young American's for Freedom was given $20,000 from UPAC to bring in a speaker. However, no one makes a big deal out of UPAC funding them because their speaker is little known. The fact that UPAC gave money to both Young American's for Freedom and the College Democrats shows how non-biased their efforts are. Lastly, Michael Moore is coming for 60 percent off of his normal speaking fee. Moore is in such demand across the country that I am positive that another school would pay his full price, but instead he chose Penn State. He knows how hard the College Democrats have worked to raise the $13,000 for the Jordan Center and additional expenses that UPAC did not cover. This proves how six months of hard work really can pay off.
