More than 200 people gathered Saturday morning outside the State College Borough Municipal Building for the March for Change held by the State College chapter of Mothers Opposing Bush (MOB).

When Brandon Stiver sat down to watch the presidential debate Thursday night, he expected a few more answers.

All it took to compete in the Tussey Mountainback 50 Mile Relay and Ultramarathon was $50 and waking up at 5 a.m. on a Saturday morning.

The dimly lit Mount Nittany Club was adorned with candles and roses on Saturday evening to create a formal atmosphere in celebration of "An Affair to Remember," Penn State's Sesquicentennial Gala.

Members of the National Pan-Hellenic (NPHC) Council showed students yesterday afternoon that they do not always have to go to class to learn a little history.

Although men continue to outnumber women in science and technology programs at Penn State, experts say women are entering the fields in increasing numbers, due in part to extensive recruitment efforts.

About 100 anti-abortion rights advocates stood along the sidewalks surrounding State College Medical Services, 900 W. College Ave., yesterday afternoon during the 10th annual Life Chain protest.

As the presidential election draws closer, theft involving political signs is constantly gracing the State College Police Department's (SCPD) log.

Hey, did you go to the Dave show Friday night? What's that? It was more than just a Dave show? Well, that's weird because that's all anyone referred to it as, even the Bryce Jordan Center (BJC).

The designated protest area at the Bryce Jordan Center was filled with Bush-Cheney signs Friday night, as about 30 conservatives rallied against the Dave Matthews Band and the partisan Vote for Change tour.

SPORTS

On a weekend in which the highly touted Penn State sports matchups involved the volleyball, football and men's soccer teams, the field hockey team faired better than all of them, as coach Char Morett's Nittany Lions improved their latest winning streak to four games.

The conventional thinking in college sports tends to be that in big games a coach tries to hide his or her freshmen from being exposed.

Sports in brief

The Penn State women's cross-country team took a trip to South Bend, Ind., Friday morning hoping to solidify itself as a threat in the Big Ten. But it'll have to wait two more weeks to accomplish that feat.

Neither rain nor shine could hold back the teams competing in the Nittany Lion invitational this weekend at the Penn State golf courses.

Mixed feelings were the name of the game this weekend at the Penn State Invitational, hosted by the women's tennis team at the Sarni Tennis Center.

The office was empty, silent.

Three races and three personal records. Not a bad way for Penn State men's cross country runner Chris Foster to start his 2004 campaign.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Penn State couldn't be much further from the West Coast, but for a night, its offense took up permanent residence there.

MINNEAPOLIS -- He had no need to feel guilty about his performance -- and no reason to think reporters would ignore him -- but Paul Posluszny couldn't see why anyone would want to talk to him after the game.

MINNEAPOLIS -- It had to have been something of an odd feeling for Zack Mills.

The saying goes big-time players make big plays in big games. This weekend, Penn State's preseason All-America forward Tiffany Weimer showed once again that she is a big-time player.

When the going gets tough, the tough get tougher.

The largest crowd in 10 years came out, the Nittany Lion mascot arrived early and the dance team put on the halftime show.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Even though it looked like the same familiar story, their expressions and their words seemed very different this time.
