Militant Christianity harms PSU campus

September 22 was the day I changed my perspective on First Amendment rights. The militant, radical, "Christian" bonanza that enveloped campus Wednesday ushers in a need for some people to lose their right to speak their mind. "Obey Jesus or Perish"? Forgive my brashness, but I'm certain I speak for the other thousands of students when I classify that massive banner as a personal attack on the diverse population of this campus. I argue this: The Willard preacher, fairly calmly, tells most of us we're on the path to Hell everyday, but he never approaches students directly or criticizes specific students on their way to class. In contrast, the people that patrolled the mall on Wednesday waved enormous, obstructive, banners and ridiculed silent passers-by. I think a small child even tried to staple a flier to my forehead that would apparently save me from eternal damnation. Perhaps the most unusual thing was that of the approximate 7 to 10 times I passed down the mall on Wednesday, I never heard one student voice supporting the actions of these radicals. We as a university are in dire need of regulations on offensive, obnoxious and outright obscene displays like those of these aforementioned "Christian" terrorists. Most importantly, I strongly encourage Christian students on campus to stand up and say this is wrong and to realize that actions like those evident on the mall Wednesday are attached to their religion and should not be condoned. Forget militant Islam, let's fix militant Christianity.
