PSU needs to control offensive messages
Descend is the perfect word for what the Warnecki family did Wednesday morning in front of Willard; I felt as though I was being ambushed by some hostile zealots. As I walked to my 10 a.m. class, Michael Warnecki (the father of this family, apparently) looked at me and yelled, "You will go to hell if you don't join with Jesus." I am already a Christian, thank you, and for those who are not, that is their prerogative. No one needs to be condemned for their choice of religion or lack of choice. Correct me if I am wrong, but free speech and hate speech are two separate things. I think that diversity of opinion is a wonderful thing--long live our First Ammendment--and I am proud that Penn State supports different opinions (like through our Distinguished Speaker Series). If speech intentionally and deliberately infringes on another person's rights, it crosses the line into hate speech. The Warnecki family clearly crossed this line on Wednesday, and it seems that nothing was done about it. As a student, I do not believe that we should be subjected to every bigot under the claim that it is "free speech." Joanna Allgood
