Letter to the Editor
Reader says USG should have power

I was dismayed when I read the Collegian Board of Editors' opinion on September 14, 2004. In their opinion the Board of Editors praised the university administration for usurping student power from the Undergraduate Student Government Supreme Court. I applaud the USG Academic Assembly and Senate for sanctioning the university administration for its actions. From my own personal experience, I have found the members of the court to be more than helpful in every step of the registration process: from answering questions about services for student organizations to assistance in arranging the organization's constitution and complying with university policy. The editorial mentioned that the university administration simply took away mindless paperwork, suggesting that the court would be grateful about the university administration's selfish summertime power grab. As students of Penn State University we should be outraged that the university administration insists on treating us as children, taking away the ability to govern our affairs, for what else could student organizations be deemed but affairs of the student body? USG should take its new found extra time to schedule nap time, recess and snack time.
