Letter to the Editor
Objectivity in media helps minority rights

In Monday's letter to the editor titled "Heinz Kerry coverage slanted by objectivity," the writer seems to contradict himself. It doesn't matter how many people are on a side of a political debate, each side should be equal when it comes to media coverage. Anthony Ross' CNN-esque view on media coverage refuses equal coverage for everyone, leaving minority groups with little press. The rally outside of Schwab Auditorium included two vocal sides, and as I was at the event, I'd have to say the pro-Bush supporters turned as many heads as the Kerry supporters. In Ross' world, African-Americans wouldn't get a fair share of media coverage; gay-Americans and Muslims wouldn't either, as well as, the problems that the handicapped face would not receive attention. By giving a majority of media coverage to majority groups, some big problems that faced this nation would be drowned out. Without strong media coverage, African-Americans may not have been given equal rights. Strong media coverage has turned these minority issues into important issues that have helped make American lives better.
