Relay teams and ultramarathoners have until Saturday, Sept. 18 to register for the 5th annual Tussey Mountainback 50 Mile Relay and Ultramarathon. The event will be held Oct. 2.
Over 150 teams have participated in the event's relay division, including teams of student and department runners from Penn State and communities throughout Pennsylvania and surrounding states.
Penn State student ultramarthoners Morgan Windram (grad., geography) and Dennis Koch (grad., kinesiology) also plan to take part again this year. Teams participating in the relay comprise up to eight members to run the 12 legs of the course.
The lengths of the course legs range from 2.8 miles to 6.3 miles. Relay teams choose a rotation order for the team, and keep that sequence throughout the event.
The event's ultramarathon division will feature the 2004 USA 50 Mile Road National Championships. Top runners from around the country will compete on what many have called a "very challenging" 50-mile course.
