Brian Battaglia may be a senior, but he needs to take a refresher math course. In his letter to the editor on Sept. 14, he told readers to ignore the fact that Penn State receives less funding per student than any other public school in Pennsylvania and less funding than any school in the Big Ten.
Battaglia told readers that despite Penn State's medical school being ranked 76th in public funding out of the 76 public medical schools in the nation, he believes that legislators have been very supportive of Penn State and he appreciates their strong commitment to the institution.
The five cuts in state funding over the past four years have no impact on tuition levels, Battaglia claims. It is nonsense to say you can combine low state support with low tuition and provide a high quality education.
