Interest in election shows PSU's smarts
In response to Nick Klein's letter to the editor, I cannot understand how you can make such a cynical and broad generalization about your fellow Penn Staters like that. The interest in this fall's election at University Park is absolutely terrific and growing stronger by the day. I was a freshman at Penn State during the 2000 election and the level of interest on campus that fall was nothing compared to what is going on now. I'm fairly certain that many music and film stars were making endorsements back then, but Penn State still seemed fairly unmoved by all the talk. Instead of claiming that Penn State students are only going to vote for John Kerry because Dave Matthews thinks it's a good idea, why not try having respect for your fellow students and their capability to make informed decisions? While we cannot expect every student at Penn State to vote for what you consider the "right" reasons (just as, I might add, we cannot expect every citizen in any community to vote for the "right" reasons), we should be proud that Penn Staters are interested and excited about voting this fall. You have to be fairly intelligent to attend our university, and maybe people are exercising that intelligence and realizing how much is at stake. Brian Stokes
