I received my master's degree in counseling from Penn State and I attended the recent football game at Boston College.
I would like to commend BC for a very touching halftime 9/11 ceremony. Reading the names of alumni from both schools who died that tragic day was quite moving. It served as a reminder for many Penn Staters that while our football allegiance is different than the fans of BC, we are all united in a much greater cause. Penn State fans began talking with nearby BC fans about our families, what we remember about 9/11, and how important it is for us to win the war on terror together. It suddenly made Penn State's poor performance not seem quite as upsetting.
I would also like to make Penn State aware of a few fans who were extremely disrespectful. While Alumni Stadium was in pre-game silence remembering the victims of 9/11, everyone could hear a few people screaming "oooooh ooooooh ooooh Let's go State." I have seen disrespectful behavior at games before, but this was absolutely over the top. Many Penn State fans were very visibly upset by the actions of those few. If anyone knows the people who did this, I hope you will relay how badly that type of behavior reflects on all Penn Staters. Everyone has a right to make themselves look ignorant, but please don't put that reputation on Penn State. Please know that Penn State fans in my area strongly condemned their actions and deeply resented it.
