Penn State kicker Nate Weltman will transfer to Virginia, according to BlueWhiteIllustrated.com.
No one at Penn State sports information, the Virginia football office or the Weltman house was available for comment.
Under NCAA rules, Weltman will have to sit out a year for transferring to another Division I-A school. He will retain three years of eligibility at Virginia.
Weltman served as the Nittany Lions' backup kicker last season behind Robbie Gould and participated in this April's Blue-White game.
Weltman is the third player to leave the team this summer. Sophomore wide receiver Josh Hannum transferred to Ursinus College to be closer to his father, and incoming freshman Adam DiMichele opted to pursue a baseball career.
The Lions have two incoming freshmen walk-ons at kicker. Tony Bernatos and Patrick Humes will compete for the backup position behind Gould this fall.
