Fliers spoil benefits of campus diversity

As I was walking into the Willard Building last week, I couldn't help but notice a few fliers that caught my attention.

They stated, "Sick of being preached to about DIVERSITY and MULTICULTURALISM?
Then Young Americans for Freedom is the organization for you!"

Why would any group issue such an advertisement?

I know we have free speech in this country as well as on this campus, but I was appalled when I saw that.

For the group that distributed those fliers, not only did you insult every minority and international student on this campus, but you have embarrassed yourselves as well.

Diversity is one of the most important aspects of a college education.

It brings many different experiences, opinions, religious beliefs and political affirmations to the classroom, which in turn educates fellow students, even if they don't notice.

In addition, diversity promotes personal growth and a healthy society.

Diversity challenges stereotyped preconceptions; it encourages critical thinking; and it helps students learn to communicate effectively with people of all kinds of varied backgrounds.

I feel as though Penn State has made great strides to ease racial tension and to make international students feel at home.

Please don't try to ruin it for the rest of us who enjoy the benefits of diversity.
