The Penn State women's track team gets its first taste of Big Ten competition this weekend at the Jesse Owens Track and Field Classic. Hosted by conference rival Ohio State, this will be the first time the majority of the Nittany Lions will be matching up against Big Ten opponents across the board. Jim Farrell isn't accustomed to this. It may be hard to remember, but those who lived it certainly know. Throughout the season, Penn State softball coach Robin Petrini has said each game is as important as the next and that no win is more important than another. However, this weekend could prove to be different. With the season winding down, the Penn State club baseball team has one real opponent left: itself. Eugene Botes, a native of South Africa, had always been a good swimmer, but he never envisioned himself swimming at the international level. Despite a 5-10 record, Penn State women's lacrosse coach Suzanne Isidor can't think of much she would have done differently this season. Just a week ago, the Penn State men's lacrosse team was fighting for a bid to the NCAA tournament. "And now a public service announcement from Playboy TV": Revenge seems to be in vogue this spring. Two weeks ago, No. 1 and 2 at the U.S. box office were Kill Bill: Vol. 2 and The Punisher. Then, this past weekend, the top spot went to the Denzel Washington vehicle, Man on Fire. Fire is about Creasy, a former government assassin who, after a girl he was protecting gets kidnapped, seeks to take down Mexico City's intricate kidnapping syndicate one corpse at a time. Prince, I miss u. Why don't u call? I kid you not; literally the instant I pulled Jay Bennett's new album off the rack, his former band Wilco's "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart" began to play in the record store. When someone mentions Penn State, the first thing that could spring to mind is football, or for those who are less sports-minded, perhaps cows. One rarely thinks of high-end fashion or art with a surprisingly global inspiration. Bill Filer will perform at 10 p.m. tonight at the Allen Street Grill, 100 W. College Ave. (231-4745) As the director of this semester's Movin' On festival, Jeniece Fairbairn was basically responsible for every aspect of the event, from selection of bands, all the way down to what kind of salsa was provided for them backstage.
