As the semester and years of my college career slowly come to an end, I can't help but let my voice be heard about diversity on campus. As I go through the college experience like many others who come to college, I try to be as involved in extracurricular activities as possible, without comprising my class work. And one thing that stands out to me is this: lack of honor. The lack of honor for our country, our culture, our ancestors, our parents, and the lack of honoring each other's culture and background. And those people who lack these differences know who they are, or they may not because they are so close-minded as to their own little world that they don't realize the beauty of "colors."
As diversity gradually increases and minorities are gradually becoming the majorities, those individuals who think that this world is their own need a reality check. If it weren't for the Native Americans help (they had lived here before Christopher Columbus accidentally landed in the America), all the pilgrims who voyaged to New England on the Mayflower would not have survived the winter.
Therefore, those who think that immigrants don't belong here need to open their minds and eyes and "smell the coffee." They need to "smell the coffee" that they, too, are immigrants; that they are gradually starting to become the minorities in the next 10 to 20 years; that wherever they go, they will see people of different backgrounds; that wherever they work, they will be working with other individuals from other countries.
And perhaps, wherever they go, they will be hit hard with people who are much, much wiser than them.
