I hate to break it to the greek community, but they, in fact, are not God's gift to the rest of us in the non-greek community. I fully support greeks in their quest for a more socially enriching college experience, and applaud them for the fact that they do not lack self confidence. But to say that just because greeks think they are "leaders" (according to Stephen R. DiOrio in his letter, "Exclusion 'tough,' fact of life for non-greeks," April 29) of the community and therefore superior to non-greeks, that they deserve special discounts downtown is absolutely ridiculous.
If the greeks think they deserve a discount, then why shouldn't the Honors College get a discount as well? After all, many Honors College students hold high-ranking positions in student government and are considered to be the best of students at Penn State. Now I am not saying that the Honors College should receive discounts, because that too would be unwarranted. I only use Honors scholars as an example of a group that actually is at the top of the university. I just would like to notify the greek community that they deserve no more than the rest of us.
So to those that want discounts downtown, you're just going to have to live with spending a little more of daddy's money and not getting unjust discounts.
