Letter to the Editor
Reasons for smoking 'lame,' miss the mark

In response to Brian Malasics ("Ruthless Nicotine clutches Collegian staffer by throat, won't let go," April 21) and those who agree with him: You're pathetic.

Smoking is a weakness and yours shines brightly. Malasics' column, if anything other than complete satire, is the single lamest rationalization I've ever read. The weakness is not a result of not being able to quit or get into shape. It's the utter disregard for humanity and the blatant self-indulgence.

When you smoke, you voluntarily inhale toxins, risk cancer, destroy your teeth and prematurely age. You bombard me with an olfactory-ravaging reek and second-hand smoke. My inhalation is unfiltered. Every time you light up, I die faster. If you continually insist on subjecting your weak will to a fruitless addiction, I implore you: switch to heroin or crack.

Likewise, if killing of your fellow beings is your aim, why not take up terrorism or serial murder and get some fame for it?
