Student asks bikers to be courteous to peds
Now that the weather is getting nicer outside, less people are crowding the buses and more are walking and riding their bikes around campus. However, I'd like to add to the list of hassles due to the Pollock construction in Tuesday's article ("Students hassled by construction," April 20), and kindly request a favor of those who must use the temporary walkways. Walk on them! For those of you who have bikes on campus, stop being so rude, get off your bikes and walk next to them. Stop knocking people over and pretending there is enough room to breeze past walkers on these very small and narrow walkways. Sidewalk traffic is bad enough when classes are letting out and everyone is scurrying to their next class, but then to have some biker plow his or her way through it results in even more of a problem. I also have a bike that I use on campus, but I realize that bikes are vehicles and not pedestrians. When you must use any sidewalk, you are supposed to walk next to your bike, especially when there are 40,000 students occupying the walkways that aren't being renovated. People have been hurt because of crazy bike riders, so use your head when you're traveling campus. And beware, because I'm not going to have a problem pushing you off your bike and into a bush if you plow into me first. Benjamin Colyer
